How We Serve
In our congregations
Stakes and wards (congregations) are led by unpaid clergy.
In addition, men, women and youth volunteer their time to serve in other leadership roles, as teachers, as mentors, and in support roles to minister to the needs of others and manage day to day operations.
In our community
We strive to strengthen our community through service. JustServe is a collaborative effort of the Church with other faith groups and local organizations. The goal of JustServe is to connect volunteers with service opportunities and address needs within our community regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. We invite you to join with us as we serve our neighbors. https://www.justserve.org/
In the world
The humanitarian efforts of the Church worldwide give hope to millions of people around the world who struggle with disease, poverty, civil conflict and despair. In times of disaster, the Church and partnering agencies respond with donations of food, clothing, medical supplies and other emergency relief in every corner of the world. In addition, the Church provides immunizations, neonatal resuscitation training, vision treatment and distributes wheelchairs.
The Church supports these services regardless of ethnicity, nationality, or religion. For more information about Latter-day Saint Charities and its partners visit LatterdaySaintCharities.org
Refugee Housing Needed in Phoenix and Tucson
Housing is urgently needed in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas for Afghan refugees. You can help identify and locate apartments and/or houses that are suitable for these families as they begin their new lives in Arizona.
The best apartments or houses for refugees meet the following criteria:
1, 2, or 3 bedrooms
Walking distance to bus transportation and grocery stores
Affordable rent
Landlords who can waive security deposits and first/last month’s rent
Refugee resettlement agencies can provide rental assistance as they work with families to become self-sufficient.
If you know of available rental properties or have a property to rent, please visit justserve.org/azrefugeeaid, or you may contact Valerie Eastman at valeastman@justserve.org.
We are most grateful for your efforts to live the second great commandment, to love our neighbors. To that end, President Russell M. Nelson taught:
"Giving help to others—making a conscientious effort to care about others as much as or more than we care about ourselves—is our joy. Especially, I might add, when it is not convenient and when it takes us out of our comfort zone. Living that second great commandment is the key to becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ."
